Uganda Cranes midfielder Allan Oyirwoth is set for a new chapter in his promising career after joining Scottish Championship side Dunfermline Athletic on loan from Major League Soccer outfit New England Revolution.
The move, reported this week, will see the 19-year-old midfielder continue his development in Scotland, where he is expected to gain valuable first-team experience and regular competitive football. Reports indicate that the loan is scheduled to run until May 31, 2027, with Dunfermline having an option to make the transfer permanent.
Oyirwoth's move to Dunfermline represents an important step in his development. After breaking into the New England Revolution setup as a teenager, the Ugandan has spent significant time developing with New England Revolution II in MLS NEXT Pro while also earning opportunities with the senior Revolution side.
The midfielder joined New England Revolution in January 2025, signing a contract that runs through the 2028 MLS season, with a club option for 2029. He subsequently gained experience with Revolution II before making appearances for the first team.
According to reports, Oyirwoth has accumulated 35 appearances and 2,687 minutes across competitions during his club career in the United States, scoring twice.
Dunfermline Athletic, competing in the Scottish Championship, provides Oyirwoth with a different footballing environment and the prospect of consistent senior minutes.
For New England Revolution, the loan offers an opportunity for one of Uganda's brightest young midfielders to continue developing outside the MLS environment before potentially returning to the club with greater experience.
The Scottish Championship is known for its competitive and physically demanding football, and regular involvement could help Oyirwoth sharpen his tactical awareness, physicality and decision-making.
Oyirwoth has already been on the radar of Uganda's senior national team despite his young age. The midfielder has represented the Uganda Cranes and was selected for international duty by New England Revolution during the June 2026 FIFA international window.
His international experience adds another dimension to his growing career, with the Scotland move potentially giving the Cranes another midfielder playing regularly in a European league.
Oyirwoth has also represented Uganda at youth level, including the Uganda U20 side that reached the final of the 2023 African Games. He scored against Senegal during the tournament as Uganda topped their group.
The switch to Dunfermline is another significant milestone for Oyirwoth, who has risen rapidly from Ugandan football to the MLS and now the Scottish Championship.
At just 19, the midfielder has already experienced football in Uganda, England and the United States, and his latest move gives him an opportunity to establish himself in European football.
