Bulemeezi Saaza FC is mourning the tragic death of newly signed full-back Ssebyondwa Rogers, who reportedly passed away following a dangerous collision with the goalkeeper during a Masaza Cup match on Sunday, August 2, 2026.
Ssebyondwa was involved in the unfortunate incident during Bulemeezi’s encounter against Kyaggwe FC. The collision left the defender seriously injured, and despite efforts to save his life, he was later confirmed dead.
The match continued amid the devastating circumstances, with Kyaggwe FC eventually securing a narrow 1–0 victory away from home.
Ssebyondwa had only recently joined Bulemeezi Saaza FC and was looking forward to making his contribution to the team’s campaign. His death has therefore come as a major shock to the club, teammates, supporters and the wider football community.
Before joining Bulemeezi, the talented full-back had featured for several clubs, including MYDA FC, Luweero United FC and Busula SC, gaining valuable experience across Uganda’s footballing landscape.
His passing is another painful reminder of the risks players can face on the football pitch, where high-intensity challenges and collisions can sometimes have devastating consequences.
Tributes are expected to continue pouring in for Ssebyondwa as teammates, former clubs, friends and supporters remember a player whose football journey was tragically cut short.
