Express FC made a strong statement in the early stages of the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season after defeating KCCA FC 2–0 on Wednesday, September 3, 2026, at the conclusion of Matchday 2.
The opening half ended goalless, with both sides unable to find the breakthrough despite competing for control of the game.
Express eventually found the decisive moment in the 51st minute, when Isaac Wagoina put the hosts ahead.
Wagoina's goal changed the complexion of the contest, forcing KCCA to chase an equaliser while Express gained confidence from taking the lead.
Express remained disciplined after going in front and continued to threaten on the counter.
Their persistence was rewarded deep into stoppage time when Ddungu Derrick "Rickman" found the net in the 90+3rd minute, doubling Express's advantage and effectively putting the result beyond KCCA's reach.
The late goal ensured Express finished the evening with a comfortable 2–0 victory.
Interestingly, KCCA FC enjoyed the majority of possession but were unable to translate that territorial advantage into goals.
Express recorded 38% possession, meaning KCCA controlled the remaining 62% of the ball. However, possession alone did not prove decisive as Express were more efficient when opportunities came their way.
KCCA registered five shots on target, compared to two from Express, yet the Red Eagles converted their chances at crucial moments to secure all three points.
The statistics therefore tell an important story: KCCA had more control of the ball and tested the Express goalkeeper more frequently, but Express were clinical enough to protect their lead and punish the visitors when it mattered most.
The 2–0 triumph is another boost for Express FC as they look to establish themselves among the early contenders in the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League campaign.
After two rounds, the Red Eagles can take considerable confidence from their ability to combine defensive organisation with decisive attacking moments.
For KCCA FC, the defeat will raise questions about their attacking efficiency. Despite having 62% possession and five shots on target, they could not find a way past the Express defence.
Ultimately, Wagoina's 51st-minute opener and Rickman's stoppage-time strike were enough to settle the Kampala derby, handing Express FC a deserved 2–0 victory and another valuable three points.
