Ugandan midfielder Norman Odipio has completed a move to Libyan Premier League side Al Bashayer Misrata from Uganda Premier League club Maroons FC.
The transfer marks a significant step in Odipio’s career as he takes his talents outside Uganda and joins the Libyan top flight for the 2026/27 season.
Odipio’s journey with Maroons began at the club’s academy, where he developed before earning promotion to the Maroons senior team in 2021. His progression through the club’s youth setup into the first team highlighted his development as a midfielder and established him as one of the players to emerge from the Maroons academy system.
After several seasons with the Prison Warders, Odipio now begins a new chapter in North Africa with Al Bashayer Misrata, where he will look to adapt to a new league and contribute to the club’s ambitions in the Libyan Premier League.
Odipio becomes the third Ugandan player featuring in the Libyan league this term, joining fellow Ugandans Philip Azango Mukwala and Richard Kassaga.
The growing presence of Ugandan players in Libya provides another pathway for players from the Uganda Premier League to gain international experience and compete in foreign leagues.
For Odipio, the move represents the latest stage of a journey that started in the Maroons academy and progressed to the senior team before earning him an opportunity on the international stage.
His next challenge will be to establish himself at Al Bashayer Misrata and make an impact in the Libyan Premier League.
