The Uganda Premier League (UPL) clubs have confirmed their respective captains ahead of the 2026/27 season, with a mixture of experienced leaders and established first-team figures set to wear the armband.
The captains will play an important role in guiding their teammates through what promises to be another competitive UPL campaign. Captaincy brings responsibility both on and off the pitch, with the appointed players expected to provide leadership, communication and composure during the long league season.
The list released by the UPL features captains from clubs across the division, including defending champions Vipers SC, traditional giants SC Villa and KCCA FC, as well as newly promoted sides.
One of the notable appointments is Herbert Achayi, who has been named KCCA FC captain for the new campaign. His appointment represents a new chapter in the leadership structure at the Lugogo-based club.
Achayi is a product of the KCCA FC system and has also represented Express FC before returning to the Kasasiro Boys. His experience at the club and at national-team level makes him one of the prominent leadership figures in the squad.
At reigning champions Vipers SC, experienced forward Milton Karisa will continue to carry the captain's armband.
Karisa's leadership will be particularly important as the Venoms look to defend their league crown while maintaining their status among Uganda's leading clubs.
Richard Ayiko will lead Lugazi FC. The experienced defender has already been entrusted with the captaincy and recently extended his stay with the club, providing continuity as Lugazi prepare for another top-flight campaign.
The appointments highlight the importance UPL clubs are placing on experienced dressing-room figures. From established names such as Milton Karisa and Richard Ayiko to players taking on increased responsibility at clubs such as KCCA FC, the captains will be central to their teams' ambitions.
For the newly established and promoted sides, the captain's role will be equally crucial as they seek to adapt to the demands of top-flight football.
With the 2026/27 season underway, all eyes will now be on these leaders to set the standards for their respective teams, motivate their teammates and represent their clubs whenever they step onto the pitch.
