BUSHENYI — In a major boost to regional sports and talent development, local giants Wandaz Cosmetics Company have officially sealed a massive UGX 100 million sponsorship deal with the organizers of the prestigious Ankole Cup.
The blockbuster partnership designates Wandaz Cosmetics as the official sponsor of the tournament's prize money, injecting significant financial power and prestige into the ongoing inter-district championship.
Beyond financing the prize pool, the cosmetics company is set to elevate the fan experience across the sub-region. Wandaz will run mobile salons at the match venues during the tournament, bringing professional hair and beauty services directly to the fans—especially targeting women in the sports communities—alongside major regional mobilization drives.
Expressing his gratitude, Osborne Mushabe, the Chairperson of the Ankole Cup Local Organizing Committee, noted that the package is a massive game-changer for the competition.
"We are very humbled by the support from Wandaz Cosmetics Company. With the addition of the mobile salons, citizens—most especially women—will be able to directly access premium salon services at the games, making the tournament a holistic community experience," Mushabe said.
The Ankole Cup features 13 district teams battling it out in 43 highly anticipated matches. The tournament is widely celebrated not just for discovering raw football talent, but for acting as a powerful vehicle for regional integration, youth empowerment, and economic growth. Local leadership has heavily praised the initiative for creating commercial opportunities for the hospitality and retail sectors across Western Uganda.
Strict tournament rules dictate that each 25-man district squad must feature at least 20 players born within that specific district, ensuring homegrown talent takes center stage while allowing 5 slots for elite league players to raise the competitive bar.
The highly anticipated tournament recently kicked off at the Bushenyi Main Stadium and is scheduled to run through the domestic football off-season, with the grand finale locked in for Sunday, August 16, at the Kabwohe Stadium.
With UGX 100 million now securely on the table for the top competitors, the stakes have never been higher for the 13 districts eyeing regional glory.
